Oh, ok. So, is this reply a DM too?

So, I have Amaroq downloaded but can't seem to find anything that resembles DMs. Does Mastodon even have DMs? If anyone could point me in right direction. Thanks.

"Decentralized social network" is actually the collective noun for nerds

I really like the 'Hide text behind warning' feature. Much better than just putting CN/TW at top of post. This way I have to physically do something to see the text, which makes it easier to avoid.

Are you queer or gender nonconforming? We need your help!

My little sister is a high school teacher who's looking for queer & gender non-conforming students to answer a few questions about how she can best support them in the classroom!

If you have a moment, please fill out her form here:

Please boost this! Thank you! ♥️

The great thing about Mastodon is, when the kids accuse me of wasting time on Twitter, I can just say 'I'm not even using Twitter' and it's not a lie!!

one thing that I really appreciate about Mastodon is that normally on birdsite communities become easily segmented; a lot of the queer circles I was in were very white, and it's hard to branch outside of that because the find friends feature is useless, and the only way to follow new people is through people you already follow

whereas on Mastodon, the federated and local timelines make it a lot easier to follow QPOC and branch out of otherwise way-too-white circles

If you want to write 1 thing about #autistic people down in your personal social rulebook, let it be this:

Never lecture us on how to communicate.
Or perform according to non-autistic social norms in general.

Not without being asked to or having at least asked yourself for our consent, when you feel the need to explain things.

Instead, learn about how many autistic people communicate and why and what it means to us. Learn about the violence this ableist society uses to make us look like non-autistic people.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't tell us, if we hurt you. That's always okay. Just don't lecture us on communication stuff.

#actuallyautistic

It is also wise to never assume the person you are dealing with is a non-autistic, abled person. They might not be what you expect them to be and their words and behaviour might not mean what you are used to.

There is, for example, a difference between privileged mansplaining and *splaining in general and an autistic person communicating via "infodumping" (that's what some of us call it). We don't assume you don't know what we are talking about, but by sharing all we know about a topic that fascinates us, we make sure we understand each other right and we try to connect with you.

#actuallyautistic

Just learned about types of empathy!

COGNITIVE EMPATHY - ability to predict others' thoughts and intentions, ability to "read between the lines". Often poor in #ActuallyAutistic people.

COMPASSIONATE EMPATHY - the desire to help others. Usually not affected by autism.

AFFECTIVE EMPATHY - the ability to share someone's feelings. Usually not affected by autism.

I have a new friend who has a prosthetic leg. What should I know? Anyone know of articles etc I should read, so I'm not accidentally ableist?
Any help greatly appreciated.

"anyone who identifies as Female" generally people who identify as female are called women

(i know that there are people who dislike being called women but also im tired of 'identifies as' language being used as a way to say 'see, i'm trans inclusive' while still making a distinction between "women" and "people who identify as women")

Nerdy/geeky obsession of the moment:

Atomic Rockets

projectrho.com/public_html/roc

Website dedicated to giving creative people, especially writers, good solid information about space.

Because boosting the tachyon emitters off the deflector array is complete bullshit and everyone knows it. Give your readers eyestrain because they can't put your story down, not because they're pulling muscles while rolling their eyes.

Also, the site is pretty geektastic in general.

For assholes who believe that bi/ace/aro people don't belong in pride, or bi/ace/ar/trans people don't belong in pride if they are in heterosexual relationships:

I have a relationship with a company that pays me for labor. And yes that call that an employee, that doesn’t make me an Employee American. But I can say I’m a Bisexual American, or a Bigender American, or a Genderfluid American, because those are identities. I’m a sister and a daughter. Those are relationships. I’m not a Sister American or a Daughter American.

RELATIONSHIPS != IDENTITIES

Bisexuality is an identity that is distinct not only from heterosexuality, but from gay and lesbian as well.
Transgender is an identity that is distinct from cisgender.
Asexual/Aromantic are identities that are distinct not only from heterosexuality, but also gay and lesbian as well.

Pride is about identities. Not relationships. And Asexual/Aromantic people don't have heterosexual identities.

So stop you're fucking gatekeeping you fucking assholes.
