how are KVM switches so expensive it's literally n ports with a switch, why do you need to have power to the thing. Make it a dumb hub.

@wxcafe they probably try to make the computer think it's connected to something even when it isn't

@wxcafe Unless it's a physical switch with a bazillion poles you need to have transistors to switch the signals and those need to be powered

They're essentially acting as selectively-activated amplifiers.

@wxcafe it would be hard to move, fail easily, and also probably cause pretty extreme signal degradation for VGA which is analog
