How comes multiple services I run myself (mastodon, email, xmpp, …), some on an x86 box in my living room, all deliver messages more reliably and quickly than signal, an international company funded by VC, with a team of people running it and servers everywhere in the cloud?

"blah blah blah it works better because it's decentralized" no it doesn't, I'm talking about delivering notifications and even talking to local users. signal apparently can't do that reliably? why?

@wxcafe honestly i'm hoping and praying that something comes along that's like telegram/signal but federated and stuff. like matrix/xmpp but with stickers and such.

i miss the days of using pidgin. remember how you could have your own custom emotes in MSN? :(

@wxcafe oh i know, i'm just annoyed because it's something i experience a hell of a lot more now than i ever did back in the days of MSN and Gtalk

@wxcafe i so dearly wanted to love Wire.
what in the fresh crispy kentucky fried fuck went wrong with modern technology.

@wxcafe it's because decentralized systems actually have benefits ;)

@wxcafe The answer in the question is : "an international company funded by VC, with a team of people running it and servers everywhere in the cloud".
