amazing. just looked at the matrix-synapse docs to make my own user admin and I can't find how to do it to save my life. I have root on the server and write access to the database, and YET I can't fucking make myself admin. incredibly good system
@wxcafe it's in the cli tool somewhere iirc, can't remember what's it's called off the top of my head though
@wxcafe Ah ok nevermind, I see commands for registering new users but not for editing room permissions unfortunately
@wxcafe I don't think editing the DB will work because it won't trigger the right side effects
what you could try is making a new admin user through the cli, adding that user to the room, and then see if they can change permissions in the room
@wxcafe you can create an admin user with the command line tool: https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/blob/develop/INSTALL.md#registering-a-user
Hmm, I think that becoming admin in a ROOM is not actually possible, because Matrix rooms are like basically little blockchains. This is also why you can never take away admin status once it's been given.
I mean to be fair, CryptPad pads are also little blockchains, which proves that not all blockchains have to soak up 100% of all CPU power ever.
I talked about this a bit in my APConf lecture a few months ago https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/the-database-is-the-protocol-reflections-on-a-20-year-tradition-of-re-inventing-the-wheel/950
